Homebrew Gadgets PSP DS on their way!

Sunday, 13-04-08

Today I received confirmation of all the gadgets I have on order. I’ve included links above to give you alternative pricing, reviews and basically a second opinion from Amazon. Gadgets include:

The Battery Tool will let me convert the PSP battery into a ‘Pandora Battery’ that will let me flash the device the accept homebrew.

The Supercard DS One is a cartridge almost identical to a DS game that will store and run homebrew and ROMs. This will simply pop straight into the DS and run the homebrew.

The Micro SD card is what you load the homebrew onto, and then slide into the DS One cartridge.

All in all this should allow me to run homebrew on the DS and PSP for only £54.96! Only the price of a about one full RRP game per handheld.

  • Battery Service Tool for Standard + Slim PSP (PSP) x 1 £12.99 from Gameseek
  • 1 x SuperCard DS One Slot-1 Solution (Nintendo DS) £28.98 from Consoleup
  • Sandisk Micro SDHC 4GB Card £12.99 from Play
  • Total £54.96

PSP Homebrew

Saturday, 12-04-08

What is Homebrew? Homebrew is home-made software that you can run on your PSP or DS. To enable this you often need to ‘Flash’ your handheld and use some specialist (but relatively inexpensive) equipment to store the software on. This blog is to serve as an introduction to Homebrew and modding your handheld gaming and convergence devices.

I’ve been using Homebrew on my Nintendo DS since the days of the DS ‘Phat’ and have fallen behind with the times a bit, as I’ve recently had trouble getting Homebrew to work. Instead of just re-learning everything again I hope to share some of what I pick up with the world and hopefully get some hints and tips back as well.

To this end I have ordered the following:

  • Supercard DS One (with a 4gb SDHC Micro-SD card)
  • Pandora Battery Converter

This is the inexpensive equipment I talked about at the start and when they arrive I’ll show you what I do with them.
